Professor Charles F. Holder, suggested they hold a festival to showcase the area's paradise-like qualities. They held the first Tournament of Roses on January 1, 1890, which consisted of a parade featuring flower-covered carriages, eventually adding in marching bands and motorized floats. Over the years, the parade grew into the world-renowned spectacle we enjoy today, and while it became too large for the Valley Hunt Club to host, the parade still starts off along South Orange Grove Boulevard in honor of its beginnings.

The Valley Hunt Club remains one of the oldest and most distinguished clubs in the area, with its stunning grounds featuring mature magnolia trees and lush landscaping, providing the ideal setting for an outdoor wedding ceremony.
