The open courtyard and covered walkways, along with the front balcony, give us some of the best natural light on the property, while the interiors offer a moodier, more dramatic feel by comparison. Because the light shifts throughout the day, the same space can look completely different depending on the time of day.

Insider Tips

Towards the end of golden hour, we love to take a few minutes in front of the Ebell to capture a few environmental portraits. The first is on the front steps, with the decorative iron and glass doors behind the couple. The second is on the lawn under the historic Ebell sign, once it lights up.

If the reception is in the Lounge, the staircase off the mezzanine works well for a grand entrance. Pausing partway down gives the couple a moment to take in all their guests, and gives guests a real chance to see the couple before they reach the dance floor.

Once the sun goes down, the fountain lights up and the Ebell sign becomes visible on the roofline. We like to slip away for a few minutes between dance sets to get pictures back here while the couple gets a short break from the reception.
