One of our favorites is Dos Pueblos Orchid Farm, situated just a short distance west of Santa Barbara. Standing beneath the vast blue sky, gazing out over the rolling waves and towering cliffs, one can easily understand why the Mikiw and Kutamu Native American tribes once called this place home. This stunning coastal region provided ample resources and space to roam, supporting vibrant villages that sprawled across the bluffs. It was the Spanish settlers who discovered this breathtaking area, naming it Dos Pueblos - "Two Villages." Later, Mexican settlers turned the prime coastal land into sprawling ranches. In 1943, Samuel Mosher recognized the potential of this undeveloped land. An esteemed oil and gas man, he envisioned a farm for exotic orchids of every kind, and transformed a portion of the vast 45,000-acre property into one of the world's largest orchid farms. Mosher's exquisite blooms added a colorful touch to elegant dinner parties and sophisticated events hosted for celebrities and politicians throughout the Santa Barbara area.
