About Catalina View Gardens

On the bluffs of Rancho Palos Verdes, Catalina View Gardens has been one of the more distinct wedding venue settings on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, set on a 25 acre estate with views of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. The land was once part of a much larger property held by the Vanderlip family, who developed most of the Peninsula starting in 1913. In 1994, Jim York purchased a section of that estate and later planted a hillside vineyard on the property in 2012. That vineyard helped earn the Palos Verdes Peninsula its own federal wine appellation in 2021, making Catalina View Gardens one of the few Southern California wedding venues built around a working vineyard.

Couples are drawn to Catalina View Gardens for its privacy, its proximity to Terranea Resort, and the combination of ocean and vineyard views in one setting. The property allows only one event at a time, with no public access, giving couples and their guests the entire estate to themselves. Less than two miles from Terranea, it also made for an easy destination wedding weekend, letting out of town guests settle into one stretch of the Peninsula for the whole trip.

Incredible Views

From high points across the estate, the Pacific Ocean stretches out below, with Catalina Island visible on clear days. We love how the light shifts over the water as the afternoon turns to evening, especially from the higher parts of the property.

Courtyards

The estate is spread across open courtyards and lawn areas, with the ocean breeze moving through most of the property. We love how much room that gives a wedding day to spread out, from a quieter corner for getting ready photos to a more open space for the ceremony itself.

Vineyard and Garden Backdrops

The property includes rows of vineyard, olive trees, and a small fruit and vegetable farm, along with a stone entrance arch framed by bougainvillea. We love having that range of backdrops in one place, from the farm rows to the arch, without needing to leave the property for a change of scenery.
